Example of an AFD BattleMech Support Company
The Support COY is made up of the headquarters staff and support personnel of a battalion. The COY is commanded by a company commander (usually a major) who is supported by a company executive officer (usually a captain) and a company first sergeant. All personnel in the support COY fall under the administrative command of the company commander, but in practice, the staff officers in the HQ platoon report directly to the battalion commander.
HQ PLATOON - the battalion HQ staff (excluding BN CO & XO). The HQ platoon includes essential officers, ncos and enlisted support personnel in the occupational specialties of the staff sections (the so-called M-desks).
COMMAND PLATOON - maintains command and control over the support company.
SIGNAL PLATOON - responsible for maintaining communication between the companies of the battalion, and battalion headquarters.
MAINT M PLATOON - provides maintenance support (included inspecting, servicing, repairing, and recovering and evacuating) for the BattleMech COY.
MAINT G PLATOON - provides maintenance support for the rest of the battalion's units.
SUPPLY A PLATOON - receives, stores, and issues the ammunition to supported units
SUPPLY S PLATOON - receives, stores, and issues the rest of the supplies to supported units
SERVICE PLATOON - administers the field service resources
MEDICAL PLATOON - has a Field Medical Team (general care) and a Forward Surgical Team (combat casualty care)
INFANTRY PLATOON - the Military Police teams provide area security for BN HQ and BattleMech COY.
